Sarah Kimbro is a dedicated Flute Performance major at Florida State University (FSU), where she studies under the mentorship of Dr. Mary Matthews and Dr. Karen Large. At FSU, she has performed with several distinguished ensembles, including the Wind Orchestra, the University Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, the FSU Flute Choir, and various chamber groups.
Before her collegiate studies, Sarah was an active performer in Tennessee, participating in the Nashville Flute Choir and the Vanderbilt Youth Symphony. She was a three-year member of her high school’s Wind Ensemble and was frequently featured in solo concerts. Her excellence was recognized with the Most Outstanding Woodwind Award for three consecutive years. She also earned placements in the Mid-State Band for three years and was selected for the Tennessee All-State Band. During this time, she studied privately with Dr. Jessica Dunnavant and Bee Laupp.
Sarah began her flute journey in fifth grade under the instruction of Bee Laupp and continued refining her skills with Dr. Dunnavant throughout high school. She has also performed with the Tennessee Tech University Orchestra, the Tennessee Tech Flute Choir, and the Tennessee Tech Concert Band.
Her commitment to artistic growth is reflected in her participation in numerous masterclasses. Notable experiences include sessions with Alexa Still (Oberlin Conservatory of Music), Jennifer Grim (University of Miami, through the Mid-South Flute Society College Masterclass), and jazz flutist Ali Ryerson.
With a strong foundation of performance and pedagogy, Sarah continues to develop her artistry and versatility as a flutist, both as a soloist and ensemble musician.
